This weekend course offers an introduction to working with wool. Learn the processes of wet and dry felting while combining both to complete a project. The workshop will begin with a lecture covering the context for working with wool, including a brief history of wool, an overview of the different kinds, unusual uses, and applications in fine art and design.
After a class brainstorm on Saturday, participants will choose a vessel to make. This could be a functional piece, such as a beret, handbag, or slippers, or a non-functional sculptural vessel. Demonstrations will be given using a core wool batt on roving and nuno felting. On Sunday, participants will learn about armatures and the tools needed for dry felting, as well as how to combine wet and dry felted elements. Resources will be provided at the end of the weekend for further exploration and research.
